Antiques on Winnie, a local Galveston shop, popular with locals and tourists alike, recently moved within the downtown business district from Winnie Street to 23rd Street near Postoffice. Proprietor sisters Becky Palmer and Tammie Taylor predictably renamed their store Antiques on 23rd, expressing a lot of excitement about their new location. “Being near the corner of Postoffice and 23rd really increases our visibility,” said Palmer. Taylor added, “Yes, we made a solid start on Winnie, but we are thrilled to be part of the retail mix in our new spot.”
Long-time antique dealers Palmer and Taylor opened their store after Hurricane Harvey in the fall of 2017. They invited fellow dealer Jo Mooney to join them then, and she continues to market wares at the new location. Mooney and her husband Steven also recently opened Chymoons Vintage and Antiques, a delightful shop located at 2325 Winnie in Galveston. Antiques on 23rd continues its tradition of offering a wide variety of merchandise. Furniture, glassware, crystal and china, lighting and art, collectibles from vinyl records to rosaries, vintage books, clothing and accessories, Galveston souvenirs and other treasures – something to fit most any budget or style. Antiques on 23rd will hold a grand re-opening celebration Saturday, July 13. Refreshments will be served all day and the store will stay open late for ArtWalk patrons. The aerial photography of Steven Mooney will be featured and Houston-area musician Trey Palmer will provide musical entertainment. “We hope everyone will stop by and welcome us to the neighborhood,” said Taylor.
